Field Notes: a project reading kit

A fictional project for a small team building a local field-notes app. These files are reading examples, not a real customer story or a working application.

Start with the question

Can a researcher collect notes without an internet connection, then hand a readable summary to a colleague?

Specification (local file)What does the first version need to do?
Architecture (local file)How are the parts connected?
Implementation plan (local file)What work is proposed?
Decisions (local file)Why choose ordinary local files?
Release notes (local file)What changed in this example?

Try the reading path

  1. Read the specification's scope.

  2. Follow its architecture link.

  3. Open the local-files decision.

  4. Return to the specification and check the acceptance criteria.

What this kit is for

Use the same folder in a text editor, a browser preview, or a Markdown reader. Keep the files together so their relative links resolve. No scripts or installer are included.

This browser reader supports headings, lists, tables, links, task lists, code and footnotes. Mermaid and math stay as source here. Images are not loaded; local file links need the downloaded folder. Raw HTML is displayed as text. Text is kept only in this tab; download a copy before leaving. Maximum file size: 1 MB.

How to convert Markdown to PDF

  1. Open or paste. Choose Open .md file, or paste Markdown into the source pane. Check headings, tables and code in the rendered page.
  2. Save as PDF. Choose Save as PDF. In your browser's print dialog, pick Save as PDF as the destination; only the document is printed.
  3. Or download HTML. Download HTML saves one .html file with the rendered text and styles, ready to email or open in any browser.

WHEN THE DOCUMENT HAS IMAGES AND DIAGRAMS

Export the whole page from your Mac.

This tool exports one file's text. Aero Markdown for Mac renders local images, Mermaid diagrams and math first, then prints, exports to PDF or saves a local HTML file. The Mac app is not available to download yet.

Check Mac app availability

Check a PDF before you send it.

Tables, code blocks and page breaks are where exports usually go wrong. The PDF guide has a short checklist.

About this converter

Is my Markdown uploaded to convert it?

No. The page is rendered in your browser tab, and the PDF is made by your browser's own print dialog. The HTML file is created in the tab and downloaded directly.

How do I get a PDF instead of printing on paper?

Choose Save as PDF. In the print dialog that opens, pick Save as PDF (on a Mac, the PDF menu at the bottom-left) as the destination.

Why are images or diagrams missing from my export?

This browser tool doesn't load images, and it shows Mermaid diagrams and math as source. The Mac app renders local images, Mermaid and KaTeX math before it exports.

What does the HTML file contain?

One self-contained .html file with the rendered text and a small stylesheet. It opens in any browser. Images are not embedded.
