The reader
Aero Markdown is a native macOS Markdown reader. It requires macOS 14 or later. It is fully offline. The library is the folder on the Mac, and the files stay on the Mac. There is no cloud in the app.
The window has three parts: a file tree, a rendered page, and a heading outline. Follow relative links inside the opened folder, use back and forward, or move to the next or previous document. Choose Serif, Sans, or Mono and adjust size, width, line spacing, zoom, and appearance.
The page renders headings, lists, task lists, tables, highlighted code, local images, Mermaid diagrams, GitHub alerts, footnotes, and math. Highlighting, Mermaid, and KaTeX ship inside the app. Print, export to PDF, or save a local HTML file. Aero Markdown includes a Finder Quick Look extension that previews Markdown on the Mac.
Files written by coding agents
Automatic reload watches the open document and is on by default. When that file changes and you have no unsaved edits, the page reloads at the current heading. Unsaved edits are kept if the disk file changes. New files do not open themselves.
Optional local hooks for Claude Code, Cursor, and Windsurf open the Markdown they write in the existing window, in the background. Codex is not included in these hooks; changes it makes to the already open document are still detected. There is no AI chat or model call inside Aero Markdown. See the coding-agent guide.
Updates
The update menu exists, but Sparkle update checks remain off until an HTTPS appcast and a public key are configured.
The user owns the data. Opening a document does not upload it. Save writes the open file when you choose Save.
Checkout and support
Download and checkout are not available yet. The site and the app use zero background analytics or tracking. There is a 14-day refund on the software license key. Support is only at support@aeromarkdown.app.
